Fly Ash For Concrete
Fly Ash for concrete is another product from Aggregate Industries, one of the UK's leading cement suppliers. It’s just one of our range of high-quality materials for general and specialised building projects aimed at optimising results.
A significant industrial waste material, fly ash is a fine, powdery byproduct that results from the combustion of pulverised coal in coal-fired power plants. It is composed of mineral particles that are carried up into the atmosphere during the burning process and subsequently collected. It is often used as a supplementary cementitious material in the construction industry.
If you’re looking to create durable and sustainable concrete, you’ll find that fly ash is a key ingredient. Working in tandem with Portland cement, for example, fly ash can significantly enhance both the performance and workability of concrete.
Fly ash reduces the risk of sulphate and chlorine ingress, protecting against Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR) from certain aggregates. PFA and fly ash as an addition in concrete is covered by the specification BS EN 405-1.
Versatile, adaptable and robust, fly ash is a go-to material for construction professionals across the UK. Applications in which it is useful range from precast concrete units, foundations and wind farms to soil stabilisation, highways, coastal structures and tunnelling.
We offer two different grades of fly ash:
EN450-1 fineness category N is perfect for durable and sustainable concrete, and is great for ready mix applications. It improves concrete durability, reduces the heat of hydration, minimises the risk of ASR and embedded CO2, all while retaining workability.
The EN450-1 fineness category S, provides the ultimate in fly ash performance. It has all the benefits of the N grade, but with controlled fineness for consistent performance and optimisation of the water to cement ratio.
