Express Asphalt Derby site improvements using SuperColour Ultra

Aggregate Industries’ Express Asphalt plant in Derby is part of the business’ nationwide network of asphalt plants and one of 20 mixing plants dedicated solely to asphalt collection. As a key regional city, the Derby site sees a high volume of vehicles loading and collecting products to distribute locally on a daily basis. 

 

In 2021, Aggregate Industries conducted a customer survey which revealed that site enhancements were required to improve the quality of the road and on-site traffic management system to create a better user experience for staff, contractors and visitors. 

 

Work needed to be carried out at the same time as keeping the plant operational, it was important that the upgrades could be completed as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimise disruption to on-site users.

 

Aggregate Industries appointed surfacing contractor, Spadeoak, to carry out the upgrades at the Derby plant. A collaborative approach was taken to agree the scope of work and delivery, and planning and excavation work began at the end of November 2021 to prepare the site for the new asphalt.

 

160 tons of AC32mm Roadbase and 120 tons of AC20mm Defense Binder course were successfully installed, with Aggregate Industries using SuperColour to create clearly differentiated zones. 60 tonnes of red and 28 tonnes of green SuperColour were used to mark out the different areas of the Derby plant, providing a clear, visual route for directing traffic through the site. 

 

The project was successfully completed in under three weeks with minimum disruption to customers and plant staff, with clear and effective road markings in place and working well.
